Best Time Window
- 7 AM - 10 AM: Pre-hatch nymphing in deeper runs and riffles with Frenchies and Perdigons before the sun hits the water.
- 11 AM - 2 PM: BWO dry-fly window — target rising fish in tailouts and slower seams with a Parachute BWO or Juju Baetis.
- 4 PM - 7 PM: Evening caddis and terrestrial action along the banks; work CDC caddis patterns and ant imitations tight to the edges until last light.
Guide's Tip
From the benchWith flows at 293 CFS and crystal-clear water, trout are spooky — stay low, approach from downstream, and make long, accurate casts. Focus your nymphing in the 3–5 ft seams along the main current tongue, keeping your indicator set so your fly is ticking the bottom in the bottom 20% of the water column. When the BWO hatch fires between 11 AM and 2 PM, switch to a small dry and target rising fish in the slower tailouts and back-eddies — those fish are looking up and will eat confidently. In the afternoon, walk the grassy banks and drop an ant pattern tight to the bank foam lines; some of the biggest fish of the day will be sitting just inches from the edge.
