- 7 AM - 9 AM: Get on the water before the storm intensifies — nymph the deep seams with heavy tungsten flies while clarity is still good and browns are actively feeding.
- 11 AM - 1 PM: Watch for a midday BWO emergence during any break in the rain; switch to a size 22 dry or emerger and target rising fish in the slower tailouts.
- 3 PM - 5 PM: As light fades and pressure drops ahead of the evening storm, swing a sculpin or streamer through the deepest pools to target aggressive pre-spawn brown trout.

From the benchWith water at 48.4°F and a storm rolling in all day, your best fishing will be in the first two hours of light before rain muddies the water. Set up a tight-line or indicator rig with a heavy tungsten anchor fly (Tungsten Rainbow Warrior or Thread Frenchie) and get it to the bottom of the deepest, slowest seams — that's where cold-water browns are stacked. If you see any midday surface activity during a lull in the rain, switch to a size 22 BWO dry or emerger and target the flat water at the tail of pools. Keep a streamer rod rigged as a backup; pre-spawn browns are territorial and a sculpin swung through a deep bucket can draw a violent strike even in cold, off-color conditions.
